First Tesla Model Y Founders Series Referral Program Winner Is From Taiwan

A Tesla owner from Taiwan was the first to win a Founders Series Model Y from the EV company’s new Referral Program. The winner only submitted two referrals, revealing how random the draw for the program is in real life.

“Dear Mili,” read Tesla’s note to the winner, “Congratulations on getting a brand new Model Y through the Tesla owner recommendation program! Thank you and your friends and relatives for your global efforts to shift to sustainable energy. Every successful car owner recommendation can give you a chance to get a new Model Y. Your past recommendation has been selected and we are honored to offer you this reward.”

Based on the winner’s note from Tesla, the Model Y Mili won will be delivered when Tesla starts handovers to reservation holders in Taiwan. The letter estimated that Model Y delivery times were currently 2021. Tesla did not specify if the Model Y delivery date estimate referred to Taiwan specifically or to countries outside the United States.

Just last week, Model Y vehicles were seen loaded onto car carriers ready to ship to delivery centers in the United States. A truck carrying multiple Model Y units was later seen on the highway as well.

The winner of Tesla’s updated Referral Program will be the first since the company rebooted the rewards scheme. The original program eventually grew too costly for Tesla after the Model 3 was released.

Tesla revived the program in March 2019 with some alterations because it was so popular. Under the new Referral Program, two Tesla vehicles--the next-gen Roadster and the Founder Series Model Y--would be given to winners who were randomly picked.

“Now, each time a friend purchases a new Tesla using your referral code, you’ll both get 1,000 miles of free Supercharging. Each referral also gives you a chance to win a Founder’s Series Model Y monthly and a Founder’s series Roadster supercar quarterly, both signed by CEO Elon Musk and Chief of Design Franz von Holzhausen. Tesla owners who already have unlimited Supercharging get two chances to win with each referral,” wrote Tesla on its official website

Mili won the Founder Series Model Y, which will be signed by both Elon Musk and Franz von Holzhausen. As such, the winner from Taiwan will have one exceptional and unique Model Y vehicle for all-time.
