Tesla Model Y has captured the world's largest automotive market. The compact SUV became the best-selling car in China in September 2022.
The future of Tesla Model Y is bright and exciting as it is on track to overtake Toyota Corolla as the world's best-selling car. While this is likely to be unattainable this year, Model Y will achieve this sometime in 2023. After a difficult Q2, the manufacturer recovered, ramping up production in Q3, thanks to Model Y achieving impressive success worldwide. In September, the compact SUV not only became the best-selling EV, but also held a leading position in the overall automotive markets in several countries around the world.
Tesla sales in China are also shining. Last month, 77,613 vehicles were sold there, the second-highest result ever. Of these, 46,694 were Tesla Model Y, making it the best-selling vehicle (regardless of segment) in the country in September 2022. Neither the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), which published the data, nor the mainstream media highlighted the manufacturer's achievement. Tesla Model Y has repeatedly become the best-selling premium SUV and the best-selling SUV in China. In addition, in June 2022, it became the best-selling car in the country. In September, Model Y repeated the success again. Becoming the best-selling car in China is a great achievement, as the car market there is huge and the competition is greater than anywhere else in the world.
In second place was BYD Song with 45,934 units sold. The cheap and unsafe SGMW Hongguang MINI dropped to third place with 37,416 registrations. Just one unit behind was BYD Qin in fourth place with 37,415 sales. Closing out the top 5 is Nissan Sylphy with 35,926 registrations. Tesla Model 3 also entered the top 10 at eighth place with 30,919 units sold.
