When it comes to racing, a lot of people think electric cars don't belong at the track--or even in the conversation. This does not apply to Tesla. The EV maker's cars have proven not only their proficiency but excellence in competitive applications--consistently taking the crown. Most recently, Tesla Model 3 Performance took yet another victory, this time at the Targa Cup event in Western Australia, according to The Driven.
The race included internal combustion engine (ICE) powered vehicles from Mitsubishi, Ford, Honda, and even Porsche. However, the all-electric Tesla Model 3 took 1st place in the renowned Targa 130 category, achieving the best combined time of 1:00:17.
This is the first time a Tesla Model 3 has hit the track at the Targa South West rally race. But for the team of winners--Jurgen and Helen Lunsmann--this was not their first time participating in this competition. Previously, they ran it with a Tesla Roadster.

Tesla Model 3 is a dedicated race car with a full CAMS-approved roll cage. Despite the fact that other cars powered by gasoline took much less time to refuel, the next closest competitor- Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 7 - was more than 4 minutes behind Tesla.

Model 3 was charged according to a specially developed schedule and technology. Engineer John Edwards created a DC mobile charger to charge the Model 3 in short ten-minute pulses to keep the charge above 80%. He did this by connecting the battery of another electric vehicle.

“Normally the Tesla has a range of about 450 kilometers, but during competition, we're working on a factor of 5-to-1, so about 80 or 90 kilometers before it needs charging,” Gemtek co-owner and EV Targa tour manager Florian Popp said in a statement prior to the race.
Tesla has proven once again that it creates the best cars in the world that achieve victory in speed, performance, and safety.
