Tesla CEO Elon Musk visited Germany earlier this week. During the visit, he revealed interesting details regarding the production of Model Y and battery cells at Giga Berlin. Despite the fact that Musk personally supervises the progress of construction, he was still pleasantly surprised.
Drive Unit construction continues to gain momentum. The North, South, and East Walls have already been completed. In the west, part of the building continues to go up. On this side, the Drive Unit will be different from the rest of the building. The west side of the building will have two floors, and according to footage from @gigafactory_4's / Twitter video, apparently there will be truck ramps.
The rest of the building is already covered with a roof, and insulation is being completed. On the east and partly on the north side, facing material has been installed.
The Paint Shop continues to grow right in front of our eyes. Part of the building is already almost complete. Here, the roof is covered and will soon begin to be insulated. As before, we can see that in one part of the building there seem be three floors, while in the other part they are not visible. In this section, we do not see any fasteners for installing floors, although there are slabs installed on the Southside that divide the room into two floors. However, this only takes up a small part of the huge space.
The construction speed of Body in White also pleasantly surprises. Most of the building is already covered with a roof frame. The installation of the roof continues, which began at the end of August. The eastern wall has already been partially installed.
It looks like the piles for the Press Shop have already gone in. At the moment, preparatory work is underway on this site to start the next stage of the building construction. A special machine cuts off the tops of the piles that are above ground level.
At this stage of construction, solid activity has become evident in the area of the Casting building. You can see that the installation of footings continues. The reinforcement frame is filled with cement, which is produced directly at the Giga Berlin site.
Tesla's efficiency and frank building speed should serve as a a role model for other large-scale construction projects. “The rapid development of Tesla's location as a billion-dollar global company in Brandenburg is a positive, but also a rare example of rapid project implementation,” said Gerd Landsberg, CEO and Executive Member of the German Association of Cities and Municipalities.
“We can definitely learn from this that only careful and very good planning before construction begins can help avoid surprises and delays,” he continued.
