NHTSA & U.S. Congress slow Tesla's development while helping China win the race to develop Full Self-Driving (FSD) technologies, says automotive engineer, Sandy Munro.
As the most innovative car manufacturer, Tesla has earned the respect of automotive professionals. While the company faces ongoing opposition from the media and the U.S. government, it continues to evolve to help support the American economy and ensure the country is at the forefront of FSD technology. Automotive engineer Sandy Munro, outraged by the attitude towards Tesla in the U.S., released a video in which he shared his thoughts.
It would not be too daring to say that Tesla is the most innovative car company in the world, although the manufacturer has gone much further than simply making cars. However, the company constantly faces unfounded criticism from those who benefit from the production and sales of internal combustion engines (ICE) vehicles. The media instantly picks up any news about a single incident involving a Tesla car and inflates it to huge scale, while ignoring hundreds of thousands of others, involving ICE cars. All these factors did not stifle indifferent Sandy Munro, who expressed his indignation at the current situation.
The automotive engineer said he had the opportunity to test Tesla's FSD Beta two times and he was extremely impressed. The car is capable of doing incredible things and drives almost completely, eliminating the intervention of a human driver. In addition, Munro is surprised by the recently unveiled at AI Day D1 chip for the Dojo supercomputer, which will help the company reach FSD even faster. He stressed that Tesla technologies are saving a lot of lives now, already. Understanding all the contributions and achievements of Tesla, Munro is outraged that there is a whole movement in the U.S. that is trying to oppose Tesla and its FSD technology.
In his video (below), the host of Munro Live revealed that Tesla released the 2020 Impact Report in early August, in which the company cited statistics that fire incidents are ~11x lower for Tesla vehicles than the average vehicle in the U.S. Munro drew attention to the fact that, immediately after that, the NHTSA launched an investigation into Tesla about fires in cars. "Is that is a coincidence?" asks Sandy. On the same day, Congress also decides to investigate Tesla's wrongdoings. "I don't know why they are doing something like that," Munro says, emphasizing that, to him, this is too much to be a mere coincidence.
The host reminded viewers that Tesla is a real American company based in the U.S., and if a U.S. resident wants to buy any model from the lineup offered by the company, then all of them will be made in the U.S. Munro also draws attention to the fact that, had Tesla not achieved all that it has in the field of FSD, then the most advanced technologies would now be in China. He says that if you constantly find fault with Tesla, slow down their work, conduct investigations by Congress and the NHTSA, then no other American automaker or OEM will be able to achieve what Tesla has.
Munro said he drove almost all cars that have "full self-driving" or "autopilot" systems and said it was "crap" and none of them could catch up with Tesla. And while the U.S. government is busy slowing down Tesla, the Chinese are creating full self-driving technologies that are vastly better than those of American manufacturers and other OEMs right now.
Towards the end of the video, Munro expressed deep agitation and strong dissatisfaction with the way the U.S. government treats Tesla. He is not a Tesla fanatic, but rather a professional who clearly understands the manufacturer's contributions and the consequences for the U.S. if they continue to prevent the company from developing its technologies.
