Tesla Model Y became the best-selling BEV in China in February. The car also once again became the best-selling premium NEV among all, securing the position of the segment leader.
In February, Tesla Model Y once again shone in the Chinese market, achieving strong sales results. Last month, Tesla sold 25,526 Model Y vehicles, placing it at the top of the list in various categories. First of all, the car became the best-selling battery electric vehicle (BEV) in the country. Tesla is the manufacturer that produces environmentally friendly cars, not hybrids like BYD, which also fall into the NEV category. Among the BEVs, BYD Dolphin is in second place behind Model Y, with 22,682 units sold.
Sales of new energy vehicles (NEV) in China are divided into price categories. Tesla Model Y also became the best-selling NEV in the price range from RMB 200,000 (around $28,975) to RMB 300,000 (around $43,462). In second place is BYD Tang DM with 10,783 units sold. The gap between Model Y and Tang DM is huge and highlights that if customers are looking for a premium car, they will first look at Tesla cars. Tesla Model 3 became the third best-selling NEV in China with 8,397 units sold.
Of course, with such strong sales results, Tesla Model Y also became the best-selling premium SUV in China in February. BYD Tang DM is in second place. BYD Corvette 07 closed out the top 3 with 6,429 sales.
