Tesla has applied to Travis County for Giga Texas expansion. The company plans to build four projects worth more than $700 million, three of which are dedicated to battery production.

Tesla continues to expand its Giga Texas, which should eventually become the company's main North American manufacturing facility. The Austin Business Review noticed on Monday, that Tesla filed four applications to expand an existing factory. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation data showed that they refer to Cell Test Lab, Cathode, Cell 1 and Drive Unit. The total cost of all projects that are labeled as New Construction is $716,700,000 and their total area is 1,439,871 square feet.

For the 2,560-square-foot Cell Test Lab, the scope of work is listed as “Ground up and complete interior finish our of the EV manufacturing facility” and costs $3,700,000.

For the 321,186-square-foot Cathode, the scope of work is listed as “Ground up and complete interior finish our of the EV manufacturing facility” and costs $260,000,000.

For the 693,093-square-foot Cell 1, the scope of work is listed as “Ground up and complete interior finish out of the EV manufacturing facility” and costs $368,000,000.

For the 423,032-square-foot Drive Unit, the scope of work is listed as “Ground up and complete interior finish out of the EV manufacturing facility” and costs $85,000,000.

Obviously, Tesla is putting a lot of emphasis on building facilities for expanding its battery production capacity. At the moment, the company manufactures its 4680 cells is Fremont, where Tesla is also expanding their production. Batteries are key to the successful development of electric vehicles, and achieving the goal of producing 20 million electric vehicles per year by 2030 requires a rapid and significant increase in their production.
