Twitter suspended ~404k accounts distributing child sexual exploitation material in January alone. One of the new measures has reduced the number of successful searches for known CSE patterns by over 99% since December.
Twitter is aggressively working to make the platform a safer place. The company continues its relentless fight against accounts that distribute child sexual exploitation (CSE) material. Now, Twitter is systematically publishing its progress reports as it achieves good results, something that the past management of the company could not boast of.

Twitter's new approach to solving the problem has been very aggressive, as the platform actively and severely restricts access to any content that it discovers may contain CSE material. As soon as such content is discovered, the platform takes swift action to remove the content and suspend bad actor accounts.
Twitter reported that in January alone it blocked about 404,000 accounts that created, distributed, or engaged with this content. This is 112% more than in November when the interventions were only starting to pay off. The chart published by Twitter shows that active measures to detect and remove content containing CSE material were only applied after Elon Musk bought Twitter and made fixing this problem a priority.
Twitter's goal is to reduce both the amount and reach of CSE material. The company said that it has begun not only to identify more bad actors faster, but also “building new defenses that proactively reduce the discoverability of Tweets that contain this type of content.” One of the new measures the platform has recently implemented has reduced successful searches for known CSE patterns by over 99% since December.
