Twitter to Reduce Ad Pushiness & Launch Higher-Priced Subscription with No Ads

Twitter is working to reduce the pushiness of ads on the platform to make the user experience more enjoyable. In addition, Twitter will launch a higher-priced subscription that will free subscribers from viewing ads.

Elon Musk continues to make some amazing changes to Twitter, and the adjustment to the ad approach is one of them. On Saturday, the Chief Twit wrote that ads are “too frequent on Twitter and too big,” and therefore, steps will be taken to address both in the coming weeks. Musk suggested that a decision might be made to advertise below tweet details instead of feeds. This would be a rather convenient solution, as it would help to make it more personalized. If a user is interested in information in a tweet, then perhaps a product or service on this topic will also be of interest to them. He did not give more details but said that the community notes would be “pure” from the ads.

In addition, Musk said that Twitter will offer a higher-priced subscription plan that will allow access to the platform without viewing ads. He has mentioned this a few times before, so it is an expected service. In fact, such a measure is a response to numerous requests from users to make it available. For many users of the platform, an extra couple of dollars a month would not make a difference, but they will be able to enjoy using Twitter without ads which is important for them. At the moment, Twitter Blue subscribers see 50% fewer ads than other users.

Musk originally wanted to change Twitter's approach to advertising. He is committed to the view that if advertising is done right and tailored to the audience, then it can delight, entertain, and inform users, which he announced in a letter to advertisers immediately after he completed the purchase of the platform in October 2022. Musk wrote that if advertising is made in accordance with this approach, then it can show you a service, product, or, for example, a treatment that users did not even know existed, but which suits them. In fact, it will benefit users, advertisers, and Twitter, which is Musk's primary goal.

”I also very much believe that advertising, when done right, can delight, entertain and inform you; it can show you a service or product or medical treatment that you never knew existed, but is right for you. For this to be true, it is essential to show Twitter users advertising that is as relevant as possible to their needs. Low relevancy ads are spam, but highly relevant ads are actually content!”
