Tesla Model 3 Glass Roof Saves Young Occupants’ Lives Heading to Their Wedding, Hit by Fallen Tree

Tesla cars are constantly saving lives and the Model 3 has once again proven its high level of safety. The Tesla Model 3's sturdy glass roof and body frame saved the lives of young people heading to their wedding, after a large section of a tree fell directly onto the vehicle.

On December 15, Sam Fursey/YouTube shared a horrific video. The footage captured a huge and heavy branch of a tree falling on the glass roof of the car, endangering the lives of all passengers. Sam said that the large section of an old tree fell right onto the roof of his Tesla Model 3, in which they were driving along the road at that moment. In addition to the driver, there was his best friend and his fiancé in the car, whom Sam drove to their wedding ceremony. The footage was taken by the dash cam of the car behind them, driven by one of the bridesmaids. The lives of all three young people were at risk due to this incident. But, fortunately for them, they were in Tesla Model 3, which brilliantly protected them.

“Large section of an old tree fell directly on my car, right above the driver's seat. I was driving my best friend and his fiancé to their wedding. The footage is from the dash cam of the car behind us, driven by one of the bridesmaids. We all walked away...thank you higher powers, and Tesla engineers.”

All Tesla vehicles are designed with safety as the top priority. Thanks to this, all cars of the company top all kinds of safety ratings, reaching the highest marks in their groups. One of the important factors in Tesla's stellar safety rating is the roof of the car. Despite being made of glass, it is much more durable than the roofs of other cars traditionally made of metal.

While the metal panel that forms the roof of a legacy car is usually the thinnest and least rigid sheet metal on a vehicle and provides little protection in the event of damage through the roof, roofs of Tesla cars, are made of double a layer of tempered glass laminated with a thermoplastic. It is much stiffer than any thin sheet metal roof. To gauge the real strength of a Model 3 roof, just keep in mind that it can support the weight of two full-grown African elephants. Although the glass can shatter during a hard impact, the plastic holds all the pieces together, preventing them from shattering into the cabin. This is what saved the lives of Sam and his friends and for which they are immensely grateful to Tesla's engineering team.
