The Las Vegas Convention announced Elon Musk wants to break ground (literally) The Boring Company will begin digging to build an underground Loop transportation system by the end of November.
Musk founded The Boring Company with the goal "to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic." [Read: The Boring Company: Elon Musk's plan to beat traffic. Click Here.]
To solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic, roads must go 3D, which means either flying cars or tunnels. Unlike flying cars, tunnels are weatherproof, out of sight and won't fall on your head. A large network of tunnels many levels deep would help alleviate congestion in any city, no matter how large it grew (just keep adding levels).

They're building a Las Vegas Convention Center Loop that will connect two building locations where events are held. This $52.5 million project, will be comprised of a Loop system with two 1 mile long tunnels that will connect the New Exhibit Hall building to the existing North/Central Hall.

Typical walk time between those two locations can take up to 15 minutes. The same trip on board the underground Loop vehicles would take approximately 1 minute. Travelling at speeds of up to 155 miles per hour.
Each autonomous electric vehicle (AEV) will have the capability to transport 16 passengers with both sitting and standing room.

The company has already begun preparing one of its digging machines to start digging the tunnels in Las Vegas. The project is expected to be completed by January 2021.
Future expansions to add more networks of tunnels to the transportation system would include service extensions to McCarran International Airport, hotels on the Las Vegas Strip, downtown Las Vegas, and Las Vegas Stadium.
Long term, the Loop system could pave the way towards long distance travel at hyper-loop speeds. Musk envisions adding more networks of tunnels that connect to more airports and even to other far away destinations like Los Angeles in California.
