Giga Berlin Phase 2

Tesla Giga Berlin To Produce Battery Cells With "Completely New Technology" In Grünheide

Last week, Tesmanian reported that Tesla's representatives in Germany and the Minister of Economy, Labor and Energy of the state of Brandenburg, Jörg Steinbach, confirmed that Tesla will build a battery cell manufacturing plant for Giga Berlin in Grünheide.

“Tesla has started planning for battery cell production in Grünheide. The company told us about it,” said Steinbach. "This is great news again. Another step to make Brandenburg the leading energy transition country in Germany and Europe," he continued.

On Monday, July 28, Steinbach said that the batteries produced by Tesla in Grünheide will be built with "completely new technology." He said the new batteries are smaller and, due to their higher energy density, provide greater range, RBB24 reported. Tesla plans to unveil its battery at the end of September at Battery Day, which will include a tour of the battery production line.

Minister Steinbach has revealed additional information about Tesla's plans. The production of batteries should be part of Phase 2 of the plant expansion. This means that it is not part of Phase 1, the plan for which is currently available to the public. For Phase 2 of the planned expansion of the factory, Tesla must submit new permits. Contamination control requires a second application, which depends on the contaminants that will be used in battery production, Steinbach said.
