Tesla helps countries support the transition to electric vehicles. The company will open its Superchargers, which will be funded by the government, in Australia for non-Tesla EVs.
Tesla will open some of its Superchargers for non-Tesla electric vehicles (EVs) in Australia. It was first reported on the Ludicrous Feed YouTube channel (via The Driven), which focused on electric vehicles and the experience of owning them in Australia. David Malicki, Team Lead, Net Zero Transport at NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment, joined the discussion on the channel and revealed that the ability to charge non-Tesla electric vehicles will appear at future Tesla sites funded by government grants under the new programs.
The new Tesla Superchargers are part of a A$39.4 million NSW government grant for a statewide DC fast charging network where 86 new charging stations, with a total of 500 stalls, from various providers will be built over the next two years. This grant was first announced in October by the NSW State treasurer and energy minister, Matt Kean.
Tesla's wide charging network is a huge advantage. The manufacturer independently developed and continues to improve the technology, which was previously available exclusively to the company's customers. The Supercharger network is the largest in the world, so Tesla owners have always had access to the best service and experience that non-Tesla EV owners could only dream of.
However, at some point, Tesla began to talk more and more about making their Supercharger network available to all EVs, which gave great hope. In November 2021, Tesla launched the non-Tesla Supercharger pilot project, which initially started in the Netherlands. Since then, it has expanded to 14 European countries where all EV owners can charge their vehicles at select Superchargers.
