Tesla recently became one of San Antonio's largest tenants by renting a huge space in an industrial park. The company's new facility will occupy 439,809 square feet at Foster Ridge 2, and will likely be used as a warehouse.
Tesla continues its expansion in the US. The company reportedly rented a huge space in San Antonio, Texas, MYSA reported. The property is 439,809 square feet and is located in the industrial park Foster Ridge 2 at 7015 Lancer Blvd., according to a recent leasing report from Dallas-based real estate company CBRE. The CBRE report says Tesla was the largest positive space absorption in the region for the third quarter.
In July, Indiana-based developer Becknell Industrial planned to begin expanding the Foster Ridge industrial park. At the time, according to the company, the original 439,809-square-foot site was leased to “a premiere automotive and clean energy company.” Obviously, it was referring to Tesla, which, with the new lease, has further expanded its presence in Texas.
Tesla filed plans with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to convert an old dealership near the San Antonio airport into a $1.9 million service center and dealership. The company then filed additional plans in April to build a $6.5 million repair center on the northwest side of San Antonio at Laureate Drive and Clarke Drive, west of I-10.
On Google maps, this place is listed as a Tesla warehouse. The property is located one and a half hours from Giga Texas and only two and a half hours from the US-Mexico border. Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently visited Mexico where he met with Nuevo León officials. Presumably, they were discussing the cooperation and investment of the manufacturer in the state, and having a warehouse near the border may be part of further development plans.
@Ladidahdodahla/Twitter also suggested that San Antonio is also only two hours away from Corpus Christi, where Tesla started building a lithium refinery. It is likely that the new premises could be used by the company in the 4680 battery production chain.
