Tesla on Track to Launch Battery Production at Giga Berlin Despite False Rumors of Stopping Plans

Tesla is on track to launch battery production at Giga Berlin despite false rumors about stopping development plans in Germany. The battery factory in both the US and Germany will be up and running as soon as possible.

Recent rumors about the production of Tesla batteries—which appeared from the Wall Street Journal—again threw the industry and investors into bewilderment. According to unnamed sources, the manufacturer intended to ship battery manufacturing equipment destined for Giga Berlin to its Giga Texas. Investors and analysts who closely follow the development of the company were skeptical of the WSJ's information, however the rest believed the untrue rumors.

In reality, the production of the 4680 batteries has already started at Giga Texas, which was confirmed during the Q2 2022 earnings call, so it did not make sense for the company to bring in a new batch of equipment taken from Giga Berlin to start production. VP, Powertrain and Energy Engineering at Tesla, Andrew Baglino said that the company installed all the necessary production equipment at the factory and even produced 4680 batteries and installed them in a car. In addition, he said Giga Texas will begin full production in Q3 2022 and will aim to surpass the Fremont production line's weekly output before the end of this year.

“Specific to Texas last quarter, cell equipment was fully installed and commissioned and we produced our first commissioning car sets of cells through the end of the line. Our target for Texas is to begin production this quarter and aim for Texas to be capable of exceeding Kato weekly output before the end of this year.”

In addition, during a public information event in Grünheide on September 11, Tesla confirmed that it is on track to begin battery production at Giga Berlin soon. Obviously, in light of the existing facts, the WSJ's report is complete nonsense.

Now there is even more evidence that the WSJ published an article based on false information. Tesla told its partners in the Grünheide area that plans to start battery production at Giga Berlin have not changed, as several German publications have reported. According to the information, both battery factories in the US and Germany should be up and running as soon as possible, and the company is not slowing down battery production plans at Giga Berlin.
