The Minister of Industry and Trade of the Indian state of Telangana invited Tesla to set up shop there. He offered to help and assist in this, pointing out that the state is a champion in sustainability.

Minister of Industry and Trade of the Indian state of Telangana K.T. Rama Rao (known as KTR) invited Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk on behalf of the state to set up shop with them. The invitation was made through his personal Twitter account, quoting Musk's recent comment about when Tesla would enter the Indian market. KTR wrote that he would be happy to cooperate in solving the problems associated with opening a store not only in Telangana but also in India. He also wrote that the state "is a champion in sustainability initiatives & a top notch business destination in India."

In September 2020, for the first time, it became known that Tesla had taken the first steps to enter the Indian market, but it is already 2022, and the company still could not launch car sales. To date, the manufacturer has encountered some obstacles that are delaying the implementation of the plan. The company would like to study the market to understand the level of demand before locating a vehicle construction or assembly plant in the country. However, the import duty on cars in the country is prohibitive, which makes it difficult to implement the plan and makes it difficult to study the market, as Tesla cars become very expensive for consumers. This creates a vicious circle that continues to delay the company's entry into the Indian market.
