Tesla plans to build a huge warehouse in Illinois. Over the past two weeks, recruitment has been opened for several vacancies in various specialties in nearby cities.
Tesla plans to open a huge warehouse south of Interstate 270 in the Metro East. According to a market report from commercial real estate firm CBRE, the company has signed a lease for nearly 667,000 square feet of space at Gateway TradePort, a planned industrial park in Pontoon Beach, according to the Courier-Tribune. The building is under construction at 1202 Tradeport Parkway, off I-270 and Illinois Route 111. This building is #4 in the park and is almost completed. According to satellite imagery, it already has a shell. It is difficult to assess the level of interior finishing work, but the building does not yet have windows and doors, so they probably have not started yet. However, with the shell completed, the facility's launch may take several months.
As of now, Tesla has not posted any job openings for the new facility on its website. However, in a Google search, you can find several jobs posted in the last two weeks. Most of them are new and have been posted in the past few days in Edwardsville, Collinsville and Granite City, cities near the property. Job openings include Warehouse Associate, Material Handler, Data Entry Clerk, and Production Associate.
The warehouse plan kicked off as the company plans to open a store and service center in southern St. Louis County, about 27 miles southwest of the Metro East facility. In addition, Tesla also operates a service center in Chesterfield.
