Based on pictures of the events, four executives routinely visit Tesla Owners Clubs (TOCs) or organize events to meet members. These executives are Tesla China’s APAC Business VP Tom Zhu, Global VP Grace Tao, General Manager Allen Wang and General Service Manager Xue Juncheng. In November 2019, Jefferey Brian “J.B.” Straubel—Tesla’s former technical director—met with local Tesla Owners Club members during his visit to China as well.
Tesla Owners Clubs in China appear to be a very active community. Just recently, different Owners Clubs organized pop-up markets across the country to boost China’s GDP by supporting local businesses, following the national government’s example.

Tesla China brought TOCs together and legitimized them in April 2020. It sent out letters to TOC members in different cities to verify memberships. Verified members will get invites to company events and other social gatherings—which could include the ones attended by Tesla China executives. One of the fun events Tesla China organized before verifying TOC members was a 3-day Driving School where Model 3 Performance owners learned to drive on a racetrack from professional drivers.
The time and effort Tesla China executives put into elevating the ownership experience of Giga Shanghai-manufactured vehicles create a level of trust between the company and its consumers. The visits could also help Tesla China improve and grow.

Elon Musk once said, “I take the position that I’m always to some degree wrong, and the aspiration is to be less wrong.” The quote reveals Tesla CEO’s more humble side and shows that even Musk knows that he isn’t completely infallible.
Musk’s quote begs the question: How does someone become less wrong? Tesla China executives seem to have found the answer. Information, insight, and input are valuable when trying to do things right, especially when trying to grow a company. Visiting Tesla Owners Clubs across China provides Tesla executives with precious data that could help them do their jobs better and help Giga Shanghai improve as well.
