Tesla officially enters the Turkish market by appointing the CEO of its subsidiary in the country. The company hopes to open stores, build Superchargers, and bring Model S, 3, X, and Y on the market in 2022.
Tesla has officially made the decision to enter Turkey, several local media reported. The company may soon start selling vehicles in the country, opening its stores in 2022. In addition, it is planned to open service centers. The manufacturer has outlined a plan to install Superchargers in places accessible to all, for example, on main roads or in malls.
According to the information, Tesla plans to quickly complete the structuring in 2022 and will bring four vehicle models to the Turkish market: Model S, 3, X, and Y. Since the launch will take place in the near future, the cars and their prices will be presented to the public soon. The company plans to build a broad customer service network there by opening service centers that will also offer maintenance and roadside assistance.
The names of the cities where the company plans to build out the Supercharger network appeared on the Tesla website: Istanbul, Ankara, Antalya, Aydin, Balikesir, Bursa, Edirne, Hendek (Sakarya), Izmir, and Konya. However, at the moment, the locations have not yet been finalized, because before giving the exact addresses, the manufacturer must obtain building permits.
Tesla will initially set up stores in Istanbul, and later in other regions and provinces. This will provide employment opportunities for thousands of people, and according to the information, job postings will start appearing on the Tesla website in a few days.
Kemel Gecer has been appointed CEO of the company in Turkey, which is registered under the name Tesla Motorlari. The capital of the company was increased to 50 million Turkish liras from 710 thousand Turkish liras.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has a warm relationship with Turkey and has worked with the country through his other company, SpaceX. On December 19, 2021, Turkey's eighth satellite—Türksat 5B—was launched by a Falcon 9 rocket from the SpaceX base in Florida, US.
