Tesla Model Ys have launched for Tampa's DASH ride service. The six electric vehicles will be available for trips around the city center for $2 per person.

In the summer of 2023, Tampa announced the launch of a new car-sharing service called DASH. This is a fleet of six all-electric cars, specially painted yellow. They will use a mobile app to pick up passengers at transport hubs across the city and deliver them to their destinations. The Tampa Downtown Partnership announced that the fare will be $2, the Tampa Bay Times reported. Service opening hours are from 7:00 to 23:00 from Monday to Saturday and from noon to 21:00 on Sunday.

Passengers will be picked up at more than 20 hubs scattered across the city center, although the locations of these hubs have not yet been announced. According to the press release, the service will be available sometime in mid-October, with a date to be announced soon.

“We wanted to make sure this new way to get around downtown is just as distinctive as the other transportation options it’ll be joining,” Shaun Drinkard, interim president of the partnership, said in the release. “When you think about the streetcar with its classic look, or a colorful e-bike or scooter, or the swords on the side of the Pirate Water Taxi, we know Dash’s bright yellow Teslas will be a great addition.”

DASH will connect up to four passengers for a shared ride in one vehicle. The cars will be driven by so-called “driver-ambassadors” trained as downtown guides. DASH will be funded by the partnership, a nonprofit organization that operates the downtown area through an agreement with the city, as well as by tariffs. DASH will travel downtown's seven neighborhoods—the Downtown River Arts Neighborhood Association, Downtown Core, Channel District, Water Street, Encore, West River, and Tampa Heights.
