Tesla Model Y sales rose 607% in Sweden in September, making it the country's best-selling car. Overall sales data shows that the electric compact crossover has become the best-selling vehicle in the country for the first nine months of 2023.

In September, 28,135 new cars were sold in Sweden, up 27.6% on last year. Of particular note is the fact that the share of electric vehicles increased by 60.7% year on year to 12,500 units. In September, the share of BEVs was 44.4%, compared to 35.3% a year earlier. The share of PHEVs increased by 22.1% to 5,337 units, or a 19% share. Together, the share of plug-in cars was 63.4% of the Swedish market the previous month, up from 55.1% a year ago.

It should be noted that the success of electric vehicles was largely due to strong sales of Tesla Model Y, which are growing month after month. According to the data, in September, Model Y became the best-selling car in the country, significantly surpassing its closest competitors. Last month, 3,050 units were registered, up 607.7% from the same period last year. Model Y's share of the Swedish car market in September was an impressive 10.8%.

The closest competitor is Volvo XC40 with 1,391 units and a 4.9% market share. In third place is VW ID.4 with 1,229 units sold and 4.4% market share. Volvo XC60 took fourth place with 748 registrations and a 2.7% market share. In fifth place is Skoda Enyaq with 708 units sold and 2.5% market share.

In September, Tesla Model Y consolidated its success and, following the results of all nine months of 2023, became the best-selling car of the year. During the three quarters, 13,457 units were sold, an increase of 175.1% compared to the same period last year. Model Y has a 6.4% market share. With a gap of an impressive 4,854 units, Volvo XC40 is in second place with 8,603 units sold and a market share of 4.1%. Notably, car sales grew only 6.8% year-on-year, indicating slowing demand. In third place is VW ID.4 with 7,755 registrations and 3.7% market share.
