Tesla Model Y continues to take over the automotive market and is on its way to becoming the world's best-selling car. In November 2022, the electric SUV became the second best-selling car in the UK, rivaling much cheaper cars.
According to the latest data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the new car market in the UK showed growth compared to the same period last year. During the month, 142,889 cars hit the country's roads. The share of BEVs on the UK's roads increased by 35.2% compared to November last year. For 11 months of 2022, the share of BEVs was 20.6%, showing an increase of 1.8 percentage points compared to 18.8% in the same period last year.
Tesla Model Y has been a clear and unrivaled winner in the electric vehicle market. However, this is not its only success. With 4,229 units sold, Model Y became the second best-selling car in the UK, only surpassed by the Nissan Qashqai with 5,636 units. At the same time, the compact SUV is 917 units superior to the third-placed MINI.
Thanks to fairly strong sales in 2022, despite a sharp decline in Q2 due to the COVID-19 lockdown in China, Tesla Model Y is the only EV to be in the top 10 best-selling vehicles in the UK. In the 11 months of 2022, Tesla has registered 24,887 Model Ys in the country, giving it a solid ninth place in the UK's list of best-selling vehicles.
