A Tesla Model X saved the lives of a family of five in a 100+ mph crash, reaffirming its 5-star safety rating. Thanks to seat belts and airbags, as well as rollover protection, none of the family members suffered life-threatening injuries.
In early September, in the salt flats of Bonneville, an area in Utah, there was a crash. An accident at a speed of more than 100 miles per hour could have ended in a real tragedy if the family, including children, were not in the Tesla at that moment. Salt flats are often used by racers who want to experience speed or test their cars. In addition, the place is popular with car manufacturers who can test their cars here.
The 44-year-old mother and father, with their 17, 15, and 12-year-old daughters, decided to test drive their Tesla Model X in the Bonneville salt flats around 8:30 pm. The car accelerated to over 100 mph and crashed into a large pile of dirt. All five were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Police officers on the scene told KSL News that the car's occupants were lucky that none of them suffered life-threatening injuries. At the same time, they recognized the merit of the Model X in that it did not roll over after the collision, which had a huge impact on the outcome. In addition, the seatbelts and airbags in the car received special praise, which maximally protected their passengers from injury.
Model X made automotive history as the first SUV to receive a 5-star safety rating in all categories and subcategories from the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In addition, the vehicle has a 5-star safety rating from the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP), which evaluates the vehicle's supportive functions as well as its ability to protect adults, children, and vulnerable road users.
