Tesla Model 3 is on track to become the best-selling EV in Europe in 2021, as the closest competitor will not be able to bridge the gap. In 11 months of the year, Tesla registered 79.7% more Model 3s than its closest competitor, VW ID.3.
Tesla Model 3 is likely to become the best-selling EV in Europe in 2021, as its competitors have almost no chance of winning. According to JATO Dynamics via InsideEVs, Model 3 sales in Europe reached an impressive 113,397 units in the 11 months of 2021, up 84% over the same period last year.
The data also show that the closest competitor, VW ID.3, is very far behind, by almost 80%. So, from January to November, only 63,109 units were registered, a whopping 50,288 units fewer than Model 3. Even if December will be very strong for the ID.3, the car will not be able to make up such a huge gap, especially given the fact that Tesla's sales in December will also be very strong. Nevertheless, there is every reason to believe that ID.3 will be able to take second place.
The Renault Zoe, which was the best-selling electric car of 2020 in Europe, is likely to come in third. For 11 months of 2021, 60,551 were registered, which shows a decrease of 27% compared to the same period last year. Despite the relatively low price of Zoe, the EV market continues to be saturated with a wide variety of EVs and now consumers have the opportunity to choose among new, more optimized models. Therefore, some of the consumers who used to choose Zoe are now looking for more modern EV options. Since Tesla cars are well ahead of their time, and can also receive the functions just developed by the company, thanks to OTA updates, they are still as relevant to purchase as they were three years ago. This is what continues to fuel the interest of consumers and arouse their desire to buy one for themselves.
