The young Tesla, which did not exist 20 years ago, now has the strongest influence on the entire automotive industry around the world, including North America. In 2021, the company produced the most vehicles in North America at its Fremont factory, among its 70 other competitors in the country.
Tesla has made huge, positive changes in the world's aging automotive industry. The company made electric cars fashionable and now its vehicles are among the most desired. Tesla has also had a big impact on the North American auto industry, and last year outsold any other competitor in the country in terms of the number of cars produced, Bloomberg reports.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has always had a particular vision of what a factory should be like. He aimed for it to take up as little space as possible, be vertically integrated, use as many robotic machines as possible, and produce huge volumes of products. Bloomberg recalls that in the early days of mass production, Tesla was the subject of ridicule and mass disbelief, but a few years later, the original Tesla plant in California received a laudable title: the most productive auto plant in North America.
Tesla's Fremont plant was producing an average of 8,550 vehicles a week last year, according to the data, which is a whopping number, especially for such a young manufacturer. For example, the giant, Toyota Motor Corp., in Georgetown, Kentucky produced an average of 8,427 cars a week, the BMW AG hub in Spartanburg, South Carolina, 8,343 cars, and the mega-popular Ford factory in Dearborn, Michigan, produced just 5,564 cars. Bloomberg analyzed manufacturing data from more than 70 manufacturing plants in North America.
In 2021, car production worldwide was held back by a lack of supply chains, yet Tesla increased its global production by 83% compared to 2020 levels. Its other automobile plant in Shanghai has tripled production to almost 486,000 vehicles. Tesla is expected to announce the start of production in the coming weeks at two new factories—Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg, the first in Europe, and Gigafactory Texas in Austin. In October, Musk said that the company plans to further increase production in Fremont and Shanghai by 50%.
