Tesla Celebrates Grand Opening of 500th Supercharger in Mainland China as its EV Demand Continues to Soar

Tesla's Supercharger Network allows Tesla drivers to charge their vehicles both conveniently and rapidly. This unique network is seen as a significant competitive advantage for the company as it enhances the customer experience and reduces EV range concerns. Tesla's charging infrastructure is developing especially actively in China, and impressively, today was the grand opening of the 500th Tesla Supercharger. The company's latest charging station is located in Shanghai.

The V3 Supercharger, equipped with nine stalls, is located in the ground parking area behind a hotel on Hengshan Road in the Xuhui District of Shanghai. Tesla China wrote that Tesla, in its products and growth, espouses the speed of continuous acceleration, comprehensive coverage, and evolutionary upgrades.

The expansion of infrastructure goes hand in hand with the growing demand for the company's vehicles in China. In early November, Tesla China announced that the company will proceed with the construction of almost 650 new Supercharging stations. Tesla China estimates that more than 7,000 stalls will be installed by the end of 2020, covering major cities and intercity roads across the country. Of these, about 5,000 will be DC charging stations, and an additional 2,000 are slated as AC charging stations--covering more than 250 cities.

Tesla has big plans in China, as the country has the world's largest market for electric vehicles. It was recently revealed that the company plans to produce electric car chargers in China starting in 2021. The company plans to invest RMB 42 million ($6.4 million) in a new charger factory near its Giga Shanghai car plant. The new facility will be able to produce 10,000 chargers per year.

Tesla reached another milestone in early November: The company now has 20,000 charging stalls around the world. China is in second place after the United States in the number of installed Superchargers, and these numbers continue to grow in the country and globally.
