Tesla has received approval from local agencies for the launch of four variants of its vehicles on the roads of India. This means that Model 3 and Y in some versions are approved for use in the country, although this does not oblige the manufacturer to immediately bring them to the local market.
Tesla has passed the homologation phase for four models/variants for which it was seeking approval in India, which was noticed by Tesla Club India®/Twitter. Homologation is a process that confirms that a vehicle is fit for use and meets all the required criteria. This step is necessary to set the stage for the launch of sales there. Without approval from local agencies, vehicle access to the country's roads would have been impossible. This was another important milestone to launch Tesla car sales in India.

While we don't have any confirmation on names yet, these are probably Model 3 & Y variants.
Will post more once we have confirmation.#TeslaIndia🇮🇳 #TCIN #Tesla pic.twitter.com/ozE5LV1u8Y
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Tesla India Motors and Energy has received approvals for four variants of its vehicles, although specific models and variants have not been named. However, at the moment, we can make a bold assumption that it’s Model 3 and Y, which have already been repeatedly seen testing on Indian roads. In terms of options, it would be reasonable to assume that Tesla will start with the most affordable ones.

Keep in mind that this approval does not mean that the company will immediately launch vehicle sales in India. At the moment, Tesla is seeking a reduction in duties from the government of the country, which means that it has not completed the implementation of its plans. According to the latest information, the Indian government may agree to reduce duties on electric vehicles if the manufacturer fulfills certain conditions.
