Tesla has received permission to expand 500,000 square feet of its Giga Texas. The expansion includes the construction of General Assembly 2 and General Assembly 3, which will begin shortly.
Tesla continues its growth by expanding its manufacturing facilities. This applies to Giga Shanghai, Giga Berlin, and Giga Texas. The demand for Tesla vehicles in North America is very high. The factory in Fremont is already operating at the limit of its capacity and further expansion of production capacity is possible only through optimization of existing territories, which, unfortunately, is very limited. However, Giga Texas has a lot of potential to grow to become the most important vehicle manufacturing hub for all of North America and beyond.
Although the Austin factory is already very large, Tesla has too many products on its already announced roadmap and probably a few more planned but not yet announced. For this reason, the manufacturer continues to expand in order to have sufficient production facilities. @SawyerMerritt/Twitter reported that Tesla has filed the permit for a 500,000 square foot expansion of Giga Texas with the Housing and Planning Department of the City of Austin. According to the document, it was filed on June 29 and includes an extension request for General Assembly 2 and General Assembly 3.
On July 1, it became known that the manufacturer has officially been granted the permit for expansion. Its expiration date is December 28, 2022, which means construction should begin in the coming months.
Wanted to provide a quick update on Tesla's Giga Texas expansion application from 2 days ago:

As of today, Tesla has officially been granted the permit & the status is now active! Expiration date is Dec 28, 2022. Total New/Addition Bldg Sqft will be 500,000 and 2 floors total. https://t.co/cDE8HvDlAx pic.twitter.com/kV9zDLaHKm
Although the expansion is to be 500,000 square feet, the filing states that the building will have two floors. This means that in fact, Tesla will add about one million more square feet of workspace. Given Tesla's superior ability to make perfect use of all available space, and the constant striving to improve its manufacturing processes, the company is sure to use it in the most efficient way.
According to the presented diagrams, the expansion will probably be in the southern part of the existing building, since the Colorado River is plotted on the diagram. The expansion is likely to be carried out as an extension of the existing building in two phases: Phase 1 and Phase 2. According to the factory's earlier plans, the southwestern part of the building should contain space for “future products.” A new expansion could be part of this space to expand manufacturing capabilities.
