Tesla Giga Texas changed the address of its location, which obviously became possible not because of a move, but instead because of a change in street name. According to the document, the Travis County Commissioners Court has changed the name of the public road along which the factory is located as Tesla Road.
It seems Tesla has started a new tradition—to rename the street on which it builds its new factories, naming them after itself. Given the hugely positive impact on the surrounding areas and the economy of these regions, the change in street names is quite justified. In 2020, the street where Giga Berlin is located was officially renamed to Tesla Straße, and now the street where Giga Texas is located is also officially renamed to Tesla Road.
January 11, the Travis County Commissioners Court unanimously passed Item 21 on their agenda, allowing for the change of Harold Green Road near Tesla's factory to Tesla Road. According to the order, the street was renamed as most of the property owners along Harold Green Road approved Tesla Road as the new name of the street.
"BE IT THEREFORE ORDERED by the Commissioners Court of Travis County, Texas, that the east-west section of Harold Green Road from the intersection with the north-south section of FM 973 to the city limit of the City of Austin is named 'Tesla Road'."
The first public signs that Tesla intends to rename the street on which Giga Texas is located appeared in November 2021 when the Office of the CEO at Tesla Omead Afshar posted a photo with the new street sign on Twitter. He commented on the photo "Welcome to Giga Texas - on Tesla Road!"

However, as it turned out at the time, the placement of the sign was advanced and resulted from a misunderstanding, according to TxDOT public information officer via KVUE. "TxDOT, Travis County and Tesla have been in constant communication about infrastructure during construction of the factory off of Harold Green Road," the spokesperson said. "As the result of a miscommunication, the Tesla Road signs were placed on SH 130 before the county officially signed off."
Now, after the county officially signed the order renaming the street, the established mark is placed there legally.
