Tesla Giga Shanghai sales were 59,845 units in January, up 286.5% year on year. This is the second-highest result of the manufacturer in the history of its factory in China.
The China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) announced that Tesla sold 59,845 Chinese-made vehicles in January, including Model 3 and Model Y. This means that Giga Shanghai produced about 1,995 vehicles per day. Thus, at this performance, Tesla already has an installed capacity to produce 728,114 vehicles per year. These figures reflect an increase of 286.5% compared to the same period last year. This is the second-highest result in the history of Giga Shanghai, after December 2021, when Tesla delivered 70,847 units.
Of the 59,845 vehicles, Tesla China exported 40,499 units in January, second only to the previous record of 40,666 in October 2021. As usual, in the first half of the quarter, Giga Shanghai produces cars for export, to be delivered to customers in February and March.
In January, Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Nio delivered only 9,652 vehicles. Xpeng delivered 12,922 vehicles during this period, showing the weakness of China's EV manufacturers compared to Tesla. Passenger car sales in China totaled 2.11 million in January, down 4.5% from a year earlier, according to the CPCA. However, Tesla's performance continues to grow and Giga Shanghai plays a key role in this.
