Tesla Giga Shanghai delivered over 83,000 vehicles in September 2022, a new record. In just one month of operation, the factory delivered 1/4 of the total manufacturer's volume for Q3 2022, which underlines its huge potential.
Cui Dongshu, Secretary General of the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), said in an interview with state media CCTV on October 9 that domestic sales of new energy vehicles remained strong in September. Although the NEV market in China is well developed, Tesla is still the leading manufacturer, ensuring its continuous development.
According to figures released today by CPCA, 83,135 Tesla vehicles made in China were sold in September. This is a new record for the manufacturer and for the entire industry as a whole. Today, no car factory in the world is capable of producing such a large number of vehicles per month and is unlikely to be able to in the coming years. The number of deliveries in September surpassed the previous record of 78,906 units in June. Compared to the same period last year, Giga Shanghai increased the number of deliveries by 48.44% and up 8.02% from August, when 76,965 vehicles were delivered.
In Q3 2022, Tesla produced 365,923 vehicles and delivered 343,830 of them. This means that deliveries from Giga Shanghai in September alone are a quarter of that number, highlighting the potential of the Chinese factory. Cumulative delivery data for Q3 2022 for Giga Shanghai is 188,317 units, or almost 55%. With Giga Berlin and Giga Texas already contributing and the Fremont factory running at full capacity, Giga Shanghai’s ability to continue to make over 50% of deliveries is impressive.
