The Brandenburg Ministry of the Environment reiterated that lack of water is not a problem for Tesla Giga Berlin. The water consumption of the factory at this stage will be quite low and does not pose a threat to the water supply of the region.

The problem of water supply for the Tesla factory near Berlin has long been a subject of heated discussion. This issue was deliberately and loudly raised in order to attract increased public attention and to turn local people against the manufacturer. In the first expansion phase, Giga Berlin needs up to 1.4 million cubic meters of water per year for the production of electric vehicles and battery cells. It is worth bearing in mind that the actual amount of water consumed will be less and the volume takes into account consumption with possible peak hours of operation, which is not a daily event.

There is enough water in the region to supply the Tesla factory in Grünheide, the Brandenburg Ministry of the Environment is convinced. The ministry dismissed fears of a looming water shortage following a recent court ruling. “At present, the demand will be much lower, and we believe that this is provided,” Minister of the Environment Axel Vogel said on Wednesday in the environment committee of the state parliament. Therefore, everything is “in the green zone.” The water association Strausberg-Erkner has not yet used all the approved water volumes of 17 million cubic meters per year.
