Tesla Giga Berlin will likely receive final environmental approval for the construction of its factory in November, according to sources from political circles. This is consistent with an earlier announcement by the Prime Minister of Brandenburg that this should happen in 2021.

In Germany, Tesla faced an incredibly lengthy approval process for the construction of its factory. In November 2021, it will be exactly two years since the CEO of the company, Elon Musk, announced its location. Since then, Tesla has almost finished the construction of the building for the production of its EVs, has begun to install and test equipment, and has also begun construction of a battery factory with only preliminary permits. This situation has long been the subject of anecdotes that can be found everywhere on social networks.

During these two years, the community has repeatedly heard from German politicians that the final permission for Giga Berlin will soon be received, however the non-optimized approval process for such projects and the bureaucratic apparatus continued to postpone it. It is worth noting that with Tesla, Brandenburg's politicians were already working at their limit since the approval speed was significantly higher than that of other large projects that were being built in the region. This proves the fact that the apparatus can work (more) quickly and efficiently, it just needs reorganization to work better.

Although the process of discussing the objections to the construction of Giga Berlin continues, it seems that the factory will soon receive the coveted final approval. It is expected to be received in November. However, it will be tied to strict conditions. Business Insider has received confirmation of this information in government circles.

According to the sources, the responsible state environmental administration of Brandenburg will require significant adjustments from Tesla, especially regarding water and potential incidents. The supervisor is primarily concerned with toxic pollutants.

A three-week process to discuss objections to the construction of Giga Berlin began last week. After that, the ministry will need some more time to get acquainted with the results of the discussions, which is not expected before the end of October. For this reason, the issuance of the permit is not expected until November.

A spokesperson for the Brandenburg Ministry of the Environment responded to a Business Insider question on the matter: “Assessed objections, government statements and the results of an online consultation will be included in the decision to be made on Tesla's request for the car/battery plant. The public can see the status of the proceedings in the online consultation documents that are publicly available and available on the Internet." The spokesperson continues: “The decision will be made after discussion/online consultation. At the moment, no statements can be made about the outcome of the decision, date and content."

Brandenburg Prime Minister Dietmar Voidke said earlier that final approval for the construction of the Tesla factory is expected this year. However, he stressed the importance of ensuring that it is legally flawless.
