Tesla Giga Berlin celebrated a significant milestone this week. The factory in Germany has reached a production capacity of 2,000 Model Ys per week, which is excellent progress. With the launch of the battery line, Giga Berlin's production capacity should increase significantly.
The grand opening of Giga Berlin took place on March 22, 2022, just under six months ago. Under scrutiny from regulators, the company launched a one-shift production facility that has built tens of thousands of vehicles to date. As of mid-April, Giga Berlin was producing around 350 Model Ys per week, but has improved significantly since a second work shift has been introduced.
On May 20, the factory started working in two shifts, but was unable to quickly ramp up production due to problems with the supply of parts from China, which has been hit by a powerful outbreak of COVID-19, closing many manufacturing plants in the country. However, as soon as the situation stabilized, Giga Berlin stepped up. In mid-June, the factory reached a production capacity of 1,000 Model Ys. This was an important new milestone for the factory on its way to becoming the driving force behind the company's car sales in Europe.
Just three months after that, Giga Berlin managed to double that result and today announced another important milestone. Tesla tweeted that the factory now has a production capacity of 2,000 vehicles per week. This means that about 256 Model Ys roll off the assembly line every day. This also means that the production capacity is now about 8,600 vehicles per month. According to the plan, Tesla will reach a production capacity of 5,000 Model Ys a week by the end of 2022/beginning of 2023.

Once the battery factory is up and running, car production is expected to increase significantly. Once workers are trained in the new manufacturing processes, the total time to build each car will be significantly reduced by using front and rear single-piece casts and a structural battery pack, which will greatly affect the performance of Giga Berlin.
