Tesla Giga Berlin received the most modern paint shop in the world. The new paint technology will give Tesla cars a special, attractive and vibrant look, and the first test samples of Mercury Silver Metallic and Deep Crimson Multicoat Model Ys have already been produced.
Each Tesla factory is built with the knowledge learned from the operation of the previous one, and the differences in their design and equipment are impressive. Giga Berlin has an advanced paint shop that can apply three coats of paint. Several layers of paint give the color a realistic depth, which makes it brighter than possible with traditional paint systems.
Giga Berlin's paint shop will add several layers of paint for a unique look. “If you get dimension, there’s something called flop, where you see the change in color with curvature,” Elon Musk said during an interview with the Third Row Tesla Podcast. “If you can do something like lay down a gloss layer, then lay down a layer with color tint, then lay down another gloss layer, you can get kind of a 3D feeling to the paint. It just pops. It's so much better than anything else. We're going to do this in Berlin for the first time.”
It is already known that Giga Berlin will offer three new colors for Model Y coming off the assembly line: Mercury Silver Metallic, Deep Crimson Multicoat, and Abyss Blue Multicoat. However, for now, cars are painted only in standard colors, but changes may occur in the near future.
Giga Berlin is currently closed for modernization in order to increase production and prepare production lines for the Model Y with a structural battery pack. Now it has become known that the changes will also affect the Paint Shop. Drive Tesla has learned that Giga Berlin has produced two test pieces painted in two of the new colors. In particular, we are talking about Model Ys Performance, painted in Mercury Silver Metallic and Deep Crimson Multicoat. This was reportedly a test coloration and it remains unknown when production will begin in the new colors. The tests appear to have gone well and the two vehicles will be sent to North America for validation. However, we have some guesses.
It was also unveiled today that Giga Berlin has produced the first few Model Y test units with a structural battery pack. Tesmanian's sources said the company is not ready to mass-produce them at the moment. This will happen only after the manufacturer starts production of 4680 battery cells in Germany, which will happen no earlier than in a few months. Simultaneous testing of several production processes hints that new colors will appear along with Model Y, which will have a structural battery pack.
