Tesla Giga Berlin plans to apply for the construction of Phase 2 before the end of 2022. According to the information, together with Phase 2, the factory in Germany will have an installed capacity to produce more than one million vehicles per year.

At the end of October, it became known that Tesla wants to expand the existing factory in Grünheide near Berlin. By then the manufacturer announced that it was beginning to clear the territory for the next stage of the Giga Berlin expansion, which involves the expansion of production capacity. For this, on October 28, the clearing of 70 hectares of the company's territory, which was not prepared, began.

Now there's more information on the planned expansion thanks to the draft budget statutes of the county Oder-Spree spotted by @gigafactory_4/Twitter. According to the document, Tesla has already informed the relevant authorities of its intention to expand its production capacity by adding more production buildings, and “the company has also announced that it will apply for a factory expansion at the end of 2022.”

In addition, the draft budget statutes also contained some information regarding planned production. The document says that, combined with a further increase in capacity, Giga Berlin's production capacity will increase from 500,000 to “more than one million” vehicles per year. This means that either Phase 2 has a planned capacity of more than 500,000 vehicles per year, or, by the time it launches, Phase 1 production capacity will be increased from the current 500,000 units per year.

Currently, Tesla Giga Berlin Phase 1 employs more than 7,000 people. It is expected that the number of employees should rise to 12,000 after production is launched at full capacity. After the construction of Phase 2, the number of jobs will increase significantly more. Tesla is already the largest private employer in the region and future expansion will bring even more benefits to the state's economy.

Brandenburg officials are very pleased that Tesla is committed to the plan for further development in the state. “With the announcement of the next phase of the car factory expansion, Tesla is clearly committed to the Brandenburg location,” Brandenburg Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke said Friday.

The Minister for Economic Affairs, Labor and Energy Jörg Steinbach also said this was a good sign. “Brandenburg is becoming more and more an important location for Germany's modern automotive industry, and Tesla, as the largest industrial employer and trainer in Brandenburg, has played a decisive role in this.”
