Tesla Giga Berlin Makes Expansion Plans Available to Public

Tesla wants to expand the Giga Berlin site by more than 100 hectares, which requires public participation. Now a date has been set when plans for this, as well as expert opinions about the forest and animals, will be put on public display.

Tesla wants to expand the Gigafactory in Grünheide by more than 100 hectares. This will require cutting down mixed forests—that is, pine and deciduous forests. A date has now been set for when plans for this, as well as expert opinions on the forest and animals, will be on display and made public, according to @Berlinergy/Twitter.

According to official statements, Tesla wants to expand the Giga Berlin territory by 100 hectares to the east. The preparation of the corresponding development plan and amendments to the land use plan were initiated in December 2022 by the municipal council. According to local laws, this requires public participation, so the plans will be available for public review for one month starting April 6.

According to Tesla's plan, the current area should be connected to an additional area to the east, which is located between the rail line RE1 and country roads L23 and L38.

According to Tesla, a freight station with optimized rail and traffic routes is planned here. Plans for the cargo station have been known since 2020, but the station and loading dock were originally to be built on Tesla's already existing site. In addition, logistics and storage areas, as well as places for recreation, training, and a kindergarten are planned at the expansion site. With the expansion of the territory and the construction of the planned infrastructure, the company can save 1,000 trucks per day, which are used for delivery. If storage facilities are close to railroad tracks, a lot of traffic can be transferred to the rails.

Anyone wishing to get acquainted with the preliminary development plan, changes in the land use plan, and expert opinions can do this from April 6 to May 8, 2023, at the Grunheider Rathaus, Am Marklplatz 1, 2nd floor. Documents are available from Monday to Thursday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. On Tuesday until 6:00 pm. On Friday, however, only from 8 am to noon. The plans are also available online at the municipal website.
