Tesla Giga Berlin has applied for a permit to use its processing plant. Consideration of the issue will last until next year.

Tesla has applied for a permit to operate a waste recycling plant, which is located on the grounds of Gigafactory Berlin, as previously expected. State Environmental Protection Agency spokesman Thomas Frey announced on Friday that consideration of the issue will last until next year. It was previously reported that the approval process could take about two months.

In September, Tesla was forced to close a waste storage facility on its property by order of the agency. This was due to changes made by Tesla, such as to the recycling operation, without the ministry’s permission. Previously, a temporary storage area of 5,000 square meters was allowed on the territory of the factory for the storage of non-hazardous waste.

In addition to this application for approval of operations, several more are expected to be submitted in the coming months, which will concern the expansion of production facilities and the logistics zone near the rail. Tesla aims to use rail transport as much as possible, which will reduce its carbon footprint.
