Tesla FSD Beta is the company's latest development and will eventually lead to full self-driving. To date, around 100,000 program participants are helping the manufacturer improve it, but the program could be expanded to one million active users by the end of 2022.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk expects that Level 4 autonomy could be achieved by the company as early as this year. During the Q4 2021 Earnings Call, Musk said that the company strives not simply to be better than a human, as this is too low a standard. People are often distracted, tired or subject to various emotions. Therefore, Tesla strives for higher standards, which requires long and hard work. That is why, its FSD Beta has been in active and painstaking development since the end of 2020.

Tesla has made great progress in developing FSD Beta, and a huge amount of success has come from the fact that the number of testers in the program is constantly growing. The data collected while driving is transmitted to Tesla supercomputers, where training takes place, which ultimately improves the function.

In an April interview with Chris Anderson, who hosted TED 2022, Musk said that, as of April, the company has over 100,000 FSD beta testers. This reflects an increase of almost 67% compared to the 60,000 announced in January. This expansion of the beta program indicates the manufacturer's growing confidence in the product and its safety.

“The car currently drives me around Austin most of the time with no interventions...and we have over 100,000 people in our full self-driving beta program,” Musk said.

However, now it has become known that an even more active expansion is coming. The head of Tesla joined the All-In Summit technical conference, where he spoke on many different topics. Among other things, he said that the company intends to significantly increase the number of participants in FSD Beta. According to him, their number could reach a whopping one million by the end of this year.

“There's about 100,000 people in the beta, so it's not tiny. And we'll be expanding that to, I don't know, probably 1 million people, on that order by the end of the year.”

In fact, this is a very important step for the company, indicating not only how well FSD Beta is developing, but also that at some point the speed of development will increase significantly, thanks to the huge amount of data. It also hints at the fact that Tesla already has, or will soon install, the capacity to process such a huge amount of data.
