Tesla is expanding in the Japanese market as demand for its vehicles continues to grow worldwide. The manufacturer has opened a new store that offers a test drive to be even more open to consumers.
The market in Japan is slowly adopting electric vehicles as they account for only 1% of total car sales in 2021. However, Japan's adoption rate rose to 8,610 electric vehicles sold last year, up from 3,238 in 2020. Basically, the success of this growth belongs to Tesla, which sold an impressive 5,200 vehicles in 2021 compared to about 1,900 in 2020.
The adoption of electric vehicles in Japan is fraught with some specific challenges. Since the country is home to the world's most popular gasoline-powered car brands, the local population is more skeptical of electric vehicles. Tesla has been trying to win the sympathy of the Japanese for several years now and seems to be on the right track. Sales data and results from several studies show that Tesla Model 3 is the most desirable imported electric car that the Japanese would like to own.
Due to ever-increasing demand, Tesla continues to expand into the Japanese market. The company had six stores throughout the country where customers could buy a car. On Saturday, Tesla Japan announced that it had opened a new location, the seventh in the country and the third in Tokyo. The Tokyo-Shinjuku store is located at 2 Chome-4-1 Nishishinjuku and in addition to the standard advice and sales, it also offers test drives. Consumers can sign up for a test drive on the manufacturer's website at the link here.
