Elon Musk Cheers on Ford for Electrifying the Mustang with the Mach-E Crossover

Elon Musk congratulated Ford via Tweet for electrifying one of its most iconic cars, the Mustang, through the Mach-E crossover. Musk’s reaction to the competition for the Model Y only proves that every car manufacturer that joins the EV market is a win for Tesla and its CEO. It also shows that the all-electric car maker isn’t scared of a little competition.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E and the Tesla Model Y will be sharing the EV stage in 2020. Both all-electric crossovers will be in showrooms around the same time next year, tantalizing the same customers, based on a previous Tesmanian report.

The Mach-E is Ford’s first attempt at a premium all-electric crossover. As such, the legendary car company seems to have taken a page out of Tesla’s book while making its electric crossover. Recently-released specs of Ford’s EV revealed that it may be quite similar to Tesla’s Model Y and other vehicles.

Ford has adopted Tesla’s futuristic design for the Mach-E. It has also focused on performance and range as well. In fact, the majority of the Mach-E specs are practically identical to the Model Y. Although, Ford’s electric vehicle will cost a smidgeon more before credits.

There’s no denying that Tesla shorts and other anti-Tesla people will pit the Mach-E and Model Y against each other, favoring Ford’s design and build. They will likely continue to bash the Model Y’s features while applauding the Mach-E’s—even if they are eerily similar.

None of that negativity will be coming from Tesla, Elon Musk, or true Tesla-enthusiasts though because electrifying Ford is a big win for the EV community as a whole. Those who keep perpetuating the “Tesla killer” narrative don’t see that any new automaker even attempting to make an all-electric vehicle is an overall win for Tesla in general.

Tesla’s main goal is to electrify the car industry and competition for their cars is part of that. Without competition, they wouldn’t be closer to their goal. And that’s why Elon Musk is so excited to see Ford’s Mustang Mach-E crossover.

Of course, even if Tesla is happy to see more all-electric cars flood the industry, it will not hold back. Tesla revitalized EV movement in the world and it came back with a vengeance. There’s no way Tesla, Elon Musk, or fans will dull themselves now that big, old-time companies like Ford are joining the EV movement. It only means Tesla needs to work much harder to keep inspiring other car manufacturers and pushing them past limits even they didn’t know existed.

As Herbert Diess, the CEO of Volkswagen said when the Tesla Model 3 won the Golden Steering Wheel award in Germany:

“That’s why Tesla is very important for us because Elon is demonstrating that it works…I’m happy that Elon is pulling us but I think the German industry is really now strongly investing [in electric vehicles] and we will keep you alert.”
