Tesla Completes Takeover of German Charger Company

Tesla has completed its planned takeover of German inductive charging technology company Wiferion. According to the website, the company now operates as Tesla Engineering Germany GmbH.

In June, there was a rumor that Tesla was buying a German wireless charging station company. Now, according to the website, the Freiburg-based company is now called Tesla Engineering Germany GmbH.

The purchase price should be around $76 million, according to Teslamag.de's observation. An entry in Tesla's current quarterly report shows that the company spent $76 million on “Business combinations, net of cash acquired.” Of course, the money could have been spent on some other acquisition, but so far, we have heard nothing of the sort.

Wiferion was founded in 2016 and is developing an inductive charging system for electric vehicles and primarily for robots. Their charging stations have been on the market since 2018. Since then, they have been sold to industrial customers about 8,000 times, according to the company.

After the takeover, the purpose of Wiferion's business also changed. After the company previously mainly served industrial customers with its inductive charging systems (driverless transport systems, robots, and forklifts), the scope is now broader. According to the Tesla Engineering Germany GmbH trade register entry, it develops, manufactures, and sells “products and services in the field of power electronics and other technical disciplines in support of the development of electric vehicles and stationary energy storage systems and devices, systems and devices for energy production, including solar modules, solar electrical systems and/or other solar energy conversion technologies and generally from all other energy generation systems, related products and related parts.”
