Tesla China opened a new Experience Center in Lingang near Giga Shanghai. Tesla China literally rolled out the red carpet for the opening of its new Experience Center.

Tesla's Model X and Model 3 were displayed at the main entrance for attendees to see on their way into the building. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held inside the new Tesla Experience Center right in front of what appeared to be two Model 3 vehicles.

Tesla China commemorated the event with with a delivery to the Lingang Group, the industry promoter and urban developer of the city. Lingang Group's transportation division received a Model 3 made in Giga Shanghai.

According to Forbes, Lingang New City, which was formerly called a Ghost City in 2013-2014, turned into a robust urban center by 2016. A Lingang Shanghai website touts the satellite city as an excellent place for international talent, taking into consideration the area's pilot free trade zone.

"Lingang provides tens of thousands of jobs for foreigners working in China, covering industries such as industry, Internet, logistics, finance, management, automobile, artificial intelligence, information technology and so on," described the website.

Tesla's Experience Center in Lingang will display Giga Shanghai's vehicles—the MIC Model 3 SR+ and Long Range RWD—and probably the Model X and Model S as well. It might conduct test drives with potential customers, too. In the future, Lingang's Tesla center may handle other operations, like sales and service.

Tesla seems to be increasing the number of sales and service centers it has around the world, focusing mainly on areas that have not been fully developed or are developing, like Lingang. For example, Tesla reportedly acquired a former Trust Ford dealership in North Ireland with plans to turn it into a sales and service center for locals.

In a previous article, Tesmanian reported that Tesla China planned to build multi-purpose Experience Centers in at least 45 different cities in the country. It is unclear whether Linang's Tesla center is part of that project, for now, at least.
