Tesla CEO Elon Musk may visit Indonesia in November 2022. According to information from the country's government, the meeting will discuss “partnerships in many things,” because Indonesia has great potential.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on May 14 in Texas and discussed potential investment and technology, the Indonesian government said in a statement, according to Reuters. Saturday's meeting came after a round of working-level talks on potential investment in Indonesia's nickel industry and the supply of batteries for electric vehicles.

Tesla representatives visited Indonesia earlier this week for meetings on potential battery-related investments, the country's officials said. Investment and Maritime Affairs Coordinating Minister Luhut Binsar Panjaitan said they visited the Morawali nickel production center on the island of Sulawesi.

For several years now, Indonesia has been trying to strike a deal with Tesla to invest in batteries and possibly with Musk's aerospace company SpaceX. The meeting, which took place on May 14, was held in Brownsville, Boca Chica Beach, Texas, at the Starbase facility where the “gateway” to Mars is located.

Widodo invited Musk to visit Indonesia in November during the G20 summit in Bali. “Hopefully in November,” the Indonesian government quoted Musk as saying. According to a government statement, the head of Tesla and SpaceX said there could be room for “partnerships in many things, because Indonesia has a lot of potential.”

Indonesia has the world's largest nickel reserves, and the president is looking to develop nickel-based electric vehicle production at home, from making nickel metal, to producing battery components and assembling electric vehicles. He has also urged Musk in the past to consider launching a rockets in Indonesia.
