Tesla CEO Elon Musk appeared as an unexpected guest at a conference of VW executives. Herbert Diess said he would also visit Tesla in Grünheide. The relationship between the heads of the company shows that each of them strives to become not only the best in the industry but to provide the world with as many EVs as possible.

Since Tesla's goal is to ensure that all ICE cars are replaced with EVs, Musk welcomes the companies that create EVs, helping to bring his aspirations to life. That is why he is open to communication with competitors, and his company has opened its patents for use by third-party companies.

Elon Musk and Herbert Diess have known each other for many years. Despite the fact that they lead competing companies, they strive for similar goals, for which they respect each other. Herbert Diess, in a recent interview at the IAA Mobility in Munich, expressed his gratitude for Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Talking to CNN Business about the parallels between him and Musk, Diess said he has a very high opinion of him. “I really respect what he does. I think he is a brilliant person. And it really matters. He is changing the world with his projects, ”Diess said. “I really like that he thinks very far into the future. He thinks far away. And he's a brilliant guy," he continued.

Due to the fact that company leaders have many similar goals, Musk has also repeatedly expressed respect for Diess. For example, in 2019, he tweeted that Diess is doing more than any major car manufacturer to move to electric vehicles.

Now their relationship has become even closer, as Musk was an unexpected guest at a recent VW conference. Diess invited the head of the American manufacturer as a speaker for an executives meeting that took place on October 14 in Alpbach, Austria. He shared the news on Twitter, expressing his gratitude for the participation and promising to visit Tesla in Grunheide soon.
"With a new mindset & a revolution in our headquarter Wolfsburg we can succeed the new competition. Good meeting with 200 top managers in Alpbach. Big responsibility at a crucial point for our company. Thx for joining @ErinMeyerINSEAD & @elonmusk, we will visit you soon in Grünheide."

During the conference, Musk praised the German competitor. “Volkswagen is an icon,” he said, saying that he himself drove various VW and Porsche 911 models for a long time.

Asked how Tesla develops faster and is more agile than its competitors, Musk explained that it's all about management style. The head of Tesla is, first of all, an engineer, and in addition to the car itself, he is sharply focused on supply chains, logistics, and manufacturing processes. Musk also said he hoped Volkswagen would cope well with the changes in the industry.
