Tesla CEO Elon Musk and AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su thanked each other for the good collaboration, meaning cooperation during the development of infotainment and navigation equipment for the refreshed Model X and Model S.
After months of rumors, in June 2021, AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su confirmed that Tesla's refreshed Model S and Model X would be powered by an AMD Ryzen CPU and AMD RDNA 2 GPU. “We’re really just getting started with RDNA 2. So you might be surprised to learn the next place you’ll find RDNA 2 graphics. It's actually on the road, in the electric vehicle market with the new Tesla Model S and Model X,” she said.
This news was also commented on by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, responding to a tweet containing information about this that the new Model S and Model X have PS5 level entertainment computing power. AMD RDNA 2 is used in many consumer devices such as the Sony PlayStation 5 and ensures that gaming systems do not consume more power than they need to. Thus, Tesla cars will receive a powerful GPU, which will be ideal for use in an electric vehicle. Such a powerful GPU opens up completely new possibilities for the manufacturer. The ability to play games in the car is impressive, but the ability to include AAA games, like The Witcher or Cyberpunk can totally blow your mind.
Obviously, this collaboration went really well and both CEOs are happy with the fruits of their work. In a recent commentary on an article about Dr. Su's view of chip shortages, Musk wrote that he enjoyed working with AMD, underlining his reply with an exclamation mark. The AMD CEO also thanked Musk and the Tesla team for their excellent cooperation.
Thanks @elonmusk - great working with @Tesla team as well https://t.co/6oFgZl5h1B
