Tesla vehicles are now available to Uber drivers in Europe. The company has expanded its agreement with Hertz by providing thousands of environmentally friendly vehicles to serve customers in European countries.
The companies have announced that Hertz will provide Uber drivers in European capitals with up to 25,000 electric vehicles by 2025, which is great news. The expansion comes about 15 months after Uber and Hertz partnered in North America to lease up to 50,000 Tesla vehicles to Uber drivers in the US.
The European program, which includes both Tesla and Polestar vehicles, will begin in January at Hertz's London base and expand over time to Paris, Amsterdam, and other regional capitals. The collaboration helps Hertz's goal of building one of the largest rental electric vehicle fleets in the world, and moves Uber closer to becoming a zero-emissions platform by 2030.
Uber said its EV driver program is gaining momentum. The company reported that, to date, about 50,000 drivers in the United States have rented Teslas through the program, driving more than 24 million all-electric trips and driving more than 260 million electric miles. The company's Uber Green program, which operates in more than 1,400 cities in North America, encourages drivers to use full-electric and hybrid vehicles.
