Tesla vehicles are now available to buy or rent for Uber drivers in London, thanks to incentives provided by the company from the clean air fund. Uber has struck a deal with Tesla to supply electric vehicles to London drivers as the city strives to cut emissions.
Starting Wednesday, Tesla vehicles will be available to buy or rent for London Uber drivers looking to transition to an eco-friendly vehicle. This was made possible as part of a program to stimulate the use of electric vehicles, the company said, according to Reuters.
Uber previously introduced a clean air fee that adds 3p (4 cents) to every mile a passenger travels in London. This has raised more than £135 million that drivers can now spend on eco-friendly models at discounted prices. Uber has already announced partnerships with companies such as Nissan and Kia. Tesla will now join the scheme, Uber said on Wednesday.
So far, more than 4,000 Uber drivers have switched to electric vehicles in London, giving the app more electric vehicles than any other major city in the world. “There is still a lot of work to do to drive a green recovery and clean up urban transport, but the progress we are seeing in London is significant and as a city we are leading the way globally,” said Uber's Northern and Eastern Europe boss, Jamie Heywood.
