Tesla is in talks with officials from five states in India to open stores, an office, an R&D center, and possibly a factory for production. At the moment, the company is choosing a place where it will start its official activities in the country, and it is reported that Tesla has booked a place in Bangalore with flexible office provider Awfis to register its office in India.

Awfis is an Indian company that offers co-working spaces to startups, freelancers, and entrepreneurial communities. The company should provide Tesla with 30,000 square feet of office space on Lavelle Road, Bangalore, according to two people with knowledge of the deal. “Tesla has taken just one seat with Awfis for the registration purposes. There is no one from the company who operates from there now,” said one of the sources, reports to The Economic Times.

It is likely that the final decision on the choice of office space will be made only after Tesla fully forms plans to enter the Indian market, which are expected to include a research and development center, as well as a manufacturing or assembly plant.

"The carmaker is currently evaluating the offers given by the various state governments," one source said, adding that the company will only announce its plan to establish an R&D office after a decision has been made on the manufacturing center.

Last week, Tesla registered its Indian office Tesla Motors & Energy Pvt Ltd in the Karnataka capital, Bangalore, according to information from the Department of Corporate Affairs. As Tesla looks for ways for the company to enter the Indian market, many states continue to enter the competition in the hope that the company will open its production in their states.
