Tesla has achieved 68% YoY solar deployment growth in 2021. The deployment of Solar Roof has tripled compared to the year prior, made possible by improvements in the installation process and lower costs.
To create an entire sustainable energy ecosystem, Tesla also manufactures a unique set of energy products that enable homeowners, businesses, and utilities to produce and manage renewable energy generation, storage, and consumption. Homeowners can install solar panels or Solar Roof to power their homes using 100% renewable energy and then store that energy in Powerwall, which makes electricity available during peak energy-use periods and at night, while also providing power during grid outages.
In the Q4 and FY2021 report, Tesla said solar power deployment in 2021 was 345 MW, up 68% year-over-year. The number of Solar Roof installations over this period roughly tripled year-over-year. The company reported that it continues to reduce costs, especially for installation, which increases the profitability of energy use.
"Solar deployments were 345 MW in 2021, increasing by 68% YoY, with cash/loan purchases accounting for nearly all solar deployments. Solar Roof deployments nearly tripled YoY in 2021 and continued to grow sequentially in Q4. We are making further cost improvements, particularly on installation, to increase energy profitability."
For Solar Roof, installation time is key to accelerating the growth of this program. That's why Tesla continues to hire hundreds of electricians and roofers to grow the business. In turn, installation teams are showing an ever-increasing rate of solar roof installation.
